Course Overview

In this course you will learn movement diagnosis and treatment as it applies to the signs and symptoms of the thoracic spine, hip and pelvis impairments associated with pelvic pain. Selection and performance of corrective exercises based on the results of the examination as well as taping techniques to facilitate correct exercise performance will be instructed. Correlations will be made throughout the course to facilitate the treatment of individuals with pelvic floor dysfunction.

Objectives

Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe concepts of trunk and hip muscle length, strength and movement patterns as they relate to pain syndromes of the thoracic spine, hips and pelvis.
  2. Describe the concepts of relative flexibility and displacement of the axis of rotation at the hip.
  3. Recognize common movement impairments of the thoracic spine, hips and pelvis.
  4. Recognize common postural and associated muscle impairments of the thoracic spine, hips and pelvis.
  5. Recognize movement impairment syndromes associated with painful conditions of the spine, hips and pelvis.
  6. Recognize sources of pelvic floor dysfunction that stem from impairments of the thoracic spine, hip and pelvis.
  7. Perform movement tests commonly related to movement impairment syndromes of the thoracic spine, hips and pelvis.
  8. Develop a diagnosis and subsequent corrective exercise program based on the results of a specific movement examination for the thoracic spine, hips and pelvis.

Special Considerations

This course includes both lecture and lab, all course attendees should come prepared to participate as both clinician and patient.

Audience

Seminar content is targeted to physical therapists. Content is not intended for use outside the scope of the learner's license or regulation. Clinical continuing education should not be taken by individuals who are not licensed or otherwise regulated; except as they are involved in a specific plan of care.
