My name is Irina Samson. I graduated with my Bachelors degree in Biology in 2006 and Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2013 both from currently work full time at Summerville Medical Center as an outpatient physical therapist, specializing in pelvic rehab. While pelvic rehab is my passion, I also have experience treating a variety of patients with orthopedic and neurological conditions, and am certified as a stroke rehab specialist as well. My journey as a pelvic health therapist began shortly after I relocated to Charleston, SC in 2016 and began working at Summerville Medical Center. I have undergone extensive training, participating in several Herman and Wallace courses, to educate myself and to provide my patients with the best level of care, using the most up to date and evidenced based treatments that are available. My clinical training allows me to treat BOTH men and women dealing with a variety of pelvic health related issues including bowel, bladder and sexual dysfunctions, in addition to various pelvic pain diagnoses. While some of the patients I see arrive with a more acute onset of symptoms, there are also several who have dealt with problems chronically for months, years, or even decades without relief, or without knowledge that pelvic rehab may in fact be a vital component in the treatment and improvement in their wellness/ condition. Pelvic rehab doesn’t just mean Kegels, and in some cases they can actually make many pelvic conditions worse! Instead, I use a thorough evaluation process and an individualized treatment plan to target each patients’ specific deficits and complaints. Interventions are tailored to help provide patients with relief, and to help them reach their goals. I am truly passionate about providing excellent treatment to my pelvic rehab patients and enjoy working closely with patients’ referral sources (be it a primary physician, OB/GYN, urologist, urogynecologist or other medical professional/specialist) to ensure that patients are receiving the best level of care. My goal as a pelvic rehab therapist is to bring awareness to as many patients and health care professionals as possible about the benefits of pelvic rehab, so that together, as an interdisciplinary team, patients with pelvic dysfunctions can not only be treated, but treated effectively!
