Lauren Rose, the owner of Physiotherapy New Mexico, has over 30 years of experience in manual therapy. She has been a physical therapist in private practice in Santa Fe for 26 years. Before obtaining a master’s degree in physical therapy, Lauren worked as a neuromuscular therapist for 10 years. After working for four years in orthopedic rehabilitation at Saint Vincent’s hospital, she opened Physiotherapy New Mexico LLC. Physiotherapy New Mexico LLC specializes in treating pelvic dysfunction for female and male patients, chronic pain, visceral adhesions, temporal mandibular dysfunction and all orthopedic issues. Lauren Rose holds certifications in trigger point dry needling, neuromuscular therapy, Egoscue and kinesio taping. She teaches The Internal Work, intravaginal and intrarectal manipulation and Stromatics I and II, visceral mobilization. In Santa Fe she leads ongoing visceral and neural study groups and privately tutors and mentors students in manual technique. Philosophy of Treatment The body is an intricate system of systems. These complex networks interact and communicate via trillions of cells that aggregate into tissues and in turn into organs. As therapists we are afforded the exquisite opportunity to interact with and ultimately help the body. My thirty-five year love affair with the body began when I was living in Boston, working as a jewelry designer. I felt a longing to be of service and decided to study Touch for Health. I have been studying anatomy and manual medicine ever since. Many practitioners are afforded the luxury of focusing their learning on one portion of the body. Gynecologists are adept at uro-gynecological anatomy and physiology, precisely what we want in a surgeon. I decided a long time ago that manual medicine requires insight into the biological conversation between systems and their interdependency. Evaluating mechanical restrictions requires a systemic as well as specific understanding of anatomy and dysfunction. For example, the origin of pelvic pain may or may not be in the pelvis. If I am only familiar with the anatomy below the navel, but the issue is cranial, I will offer less help. Every patient is distinct and presents me with a new puzzle and an adventure. How do fascial restrictions in the chest affect the pelvis? Where is the source of neural pain? The questions refine my treatment and the tools I choose to utilize. My goal is to restore lost or diminished mobility in the system. Where is it stuck? That could mean a liver that has lost visceral fluidity and hence adaptability, or a rotator cuff injury that wants increased neural slide and glide to be able to move without pain. The restoration of the integral intelligence of the tissues helps to promote freedom of movement.
