[From www.empowereverymama.com] I received my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2013. I also have my Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology and had experience in teaching group fitness for over 10 years. I am a wife, mom to 2 little girls, and a child of God. Shortly after PT school I began to have an interest in women’s health physical therapy. But it wasn’t until after the birth of my first child in 2016 when I really started to want to learn more about the role of physical therapy in women’s health and pregnancy/postpartum phases. I had my baby and everyone just kept saying things like “well, you’re a PT, you know what to do.” While I did have a great background, these are not the things that they teach you in PT school (I had maybe two lectures on women’s health). And I thought to myself, if I feel lost I can only imagine what a mama without my background feels like! I didn’t start actively pursuing a specialization in women’s health until 2018. I began to take countless online continuing education courses regarding pelvic health, pregnancy & postpartum physical therapy. I also became Odessa’s first certified Pregnancy & Postpartum Athleticism Coach and continued my training through The Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. Then in the fall of 2018, Empower Physical Therapy & Wellness was born! I provide concierge services to moms in the area as well as Telehealth services for moms who live outside of Midland/Odessa. Since 2018 I have been providing care to women both prenatally and postnatally. I believe that continuity of care is essential for moms, but I was missing being able to provide care and support to moms DURING labor. And for that reason I am most recently actively working on my certification toward becoming a DONA doula! I will be taking on births beginning in the Spring of 2021! In my time working with moms I have realized that these women need more and they deserve more! Which is why we have some exciting things up our sleeve for 2021 and the reason for the name change to Empower Every Mama! I look forward to serving you!
