Dr. Rachel Herron (she/her) works at Cedar Physical Therapy in Federal Way, where she treats all genders, ages 10+. She specializes in treating BIPOC, LGBTQ+, First Responders, Military and people experiencing anxiety, depression and Post-traumatic stress injuries (commonly referred to as PTSD). She is certified in Dry Needling, trained in Visceral Manipulation (Organ Specific Fascial Release), and also a Master Reiki Practitioner. At Cedar Physical Therapy she offers one-on-one 60 minute appointments. The black pup in her photo is Ali, a trained Therapy Dog whom you will find at appointments with Dr. Herron, assisting with patient care. Dr. Herron is a graduate of Pacific University’s Physical Therapy program, where she graduated with distinction and served as Class President. During her time at Pacific University, Dr. Herron worked as a Pelvic Health research assistant and co-founded a student-led group called The Collective for Diversity and Social Justice, to address systemic health disparities. In 2020, Dr. Herron received the American Physical Therapy Association Minority Scholarship Award and her Physical Therapy Programs Outstanding Graduate Award for her professional character, academic excellence, social justice work and community involvement. Prior to her time at Pacific University, Dr. Herron earned her Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College, where she majored in Biology, double minored in Spanish and Kinesiology, and served as Captain of her Division I soccer team. Dr. Herron loves how her student-athlete career provides her valuable insight into understanding the body, empathizing with patient adversities, and treating athletes of all ages. Dr. Herron is a trauma-informed care provider and very passionate about mental health, sexual wellness, and recovery from sports injuries. She incorporates nervous regulation exercises into patient care including but not limited to breath work, visualizations/meditations, and vagus nerve reset exercises to help people get out of fight/flight/freeze, as it relates to their physical pain, musculoskeletal and visceral symptoms. Dr. Herron has completed three Visceral Manipulation courses through the Barral Institute (VM1, VM2, VM4) to become trained in organ specific fascial mobilization. She has also completed the following Pelvic Health specific continuing education courses through the Herman and Wallace Institute: Pelvic Floor Level 1, Pelvic Floor Level 2A, Pregnancy Rehabilitation, Treatment Strategies for the Pelvic Girdle and Pelvic Floor, Functions and Dysfunctions of the Pelvic Girdle, and Sexual Medicine in Pelvic Rehab. Outside of work, Dr. Herron is proud to be an active community member. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the National Association of Black Physical Therapists. She has served as Chair of the APTA Washington State Chapter Committee for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging since 2020. In 2022, Dr. Herron received the APTA Washington State Physical Therapist of the Year Award, in honor of her community involvement and continued work to address health disparities.
