Shalay earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Penn State University in 2013 and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Rutgers University in 2017, where she discovered her passion for pelvic health. She has distinguished herself in the field by obtaining her Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification, reflecting advanced expertise in pelvic rehabilitation and comprehensive pelvic healthcare. Since 2018, she has practiced at the Center for Pelvic Wellness with Penn Medicine Princeton Health, where she treats individuals of all genders ages 6 and older with a wide range of pelvic health conditions. In addition to her clinical role at Penn Medicine Princeton Health, Shalay serves on the Physiologic Birth Committee, where she provides pelvic health physical therapy insight and advocacy alongside other healthcare professionals to improve physiologic birth outcomes on the labor and delivery unit and postpartum recovery on the mother/baby unit. She is also trained as a doula, reflecting her passion for supporting and advocating for birthing individuals throughout the perinatal journey with compassionate, informed, and empowering care. Since March 2019, Shalay has served as an adjunct instructor for the Rutgers Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, where she developed and teaches the Pelvic Health Elective. She also serves as the Center Coordinator of Clinical Education at the Center for Pelvic Wellness, overseeing pelvic health clinical experiences for physical therapy students. Shalay is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and previously served as Co-Chair of the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Black Physical Therapists (NABPT) from 2020 to 2025. Her scholarly contributions include presenting research at regional and national conferences on topics such as the efficacy of aquatic therapy for breast cancer survivors and the implementation of host positions in student-run physical therapy clinics. She remains committed to professional development, community education, mentorship, and empowering colleagues and student physical therapists to embrace their purpose and continue advancing the field of physical therapy. Outside of her clinical work, Shalay enjoys spending time with family, including her young son and husband, hiking, fishing, volunteering in her community, and going to church.
