While watching a popular reality show, Stacey Futterman Tauriello was gratified to see pelvic floor dysfunction receive celebrity airtime. Her excitement quickly turned to disappointment, when the treatment prescribed fell short of the mark. “Kegel exercises only get you so far,” says Stacey. Luckily the experienced and energetic pelvic floor specialist has been making a difference on her own—one patient or lecture at a time. Once a more generalized orthopedic physical therapist, Stacey was offered the chance to be trained in pelvic floor dysfunction in the late 1990s. “I was fascinated by it. This was an aspect to physical therapy that hadn’t been taught in school,” she recalls. While working in Chicago, Stacey became a sports medicine physical therapist—with a specialty in pelvic health and wellness. She built her practice, taking courses in manual orthopedic physical therapy, while taking specialty courses in incontinence, pelvic pain, pre-natal and postpartum musculoskeletal issues, male pelvic conditions, colorectal conditions, and pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse (a surprisingly common complaint). In 2004, she moved back to the east coast, and began to practice in New York City. In 2011, Stacey founded 5 Point Physical Therapy PLLC to treat pelvic floor issues and all musculoskeletal issues. In 2021 Stacey opened 5 Point Physical Therapy and Wellness LLC located in Millburn NJ. Stacey also teaches practitioners across the country about one of America’s most significant healthcare concerns. She is a faculty member at the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehab Institute, which provides comprehensive continuing education for the rehabilitation of pelvic floor and pelvic girdle dysfunction. Equal parts direct and compassionate, Stacey is an ideal advocate. She has been featured on The Motherhood Series for the Today Show online and 3rd hour, CBS New York, and in various national conferences listed below.
