Education and Professional Certifications: Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon Health Fitness Instructor/Personal trainer certification through the American College of Sports Medicine Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree at A.T. Still University in Arizona Sydney is an avid athlete with a passion to continue to compete in both half and full Ironman triathlons and enjoys a large variety of outdoor activities. She is excited to servicing the greater Seattle area, Portland, Newberg, OR and Hillsboro, OR areas. Sydney will be joining our team at Sage Physical Therapy. She has been focusing her speciality in orthopedic and pelvic health physical therapy for the past 8 years in the Portland, OR area and is excited to be serving the Seattle area. Sydney personally has experience with playing a year of college basketball and coaching high school basketball, she played competitive volleyball in club and now currently trains for triathlons including half ironman and full ironman races. She has a personal interest and professionally performs running gait analysis with slow motion video technology for all ages and abilities of clients. She has experience working with junior high and high school athletes, all ages of recreational as well as avid athletes looking to improve their running form and efficiency as well as recovery from soft tissue strains/ sprains, surgeries and prevention of overuse related injuries. Sydney is also trained in water running technique and has experience programming water running programs for those recovering from surgery or other injuries that are looking to maintain their cardiovascular fitness specific for running while modifications are needed to reduce the ground reaction forces. She studied for several years under a kinesiology professors studying the mechanics and effects aqua running has in reducing injury rates in cross country and other college athletes. Sydney is passionate treating urinary stress incontinence in female athletes and runners. Sydney has been STOTT Pilates rehabilitation certified for mat and reformer equipment. She has self practiced yoga over the past 15 years and is familiar with regimes including Tai chi, Barre, kettle bell training, TRX training, body rolling/foam rolling, spinning and bike fit mechanics, anaerobic cardiovascular training, building muscular power specifically to integrate with running. She is proficient in taping techniques and utilizes IASTM, joint mobilizations, myofascial release, lymphatic taping and massage, deep tissue mobilization, connective tissue mobilization for visceral fascia, scar tissue mobilization, internal pelvic floor muscle release in men and women. She has experience with mindfulness based treatment for chronic pain, chronic pain education and coaching for behavioral change. Sydney enjoys paddle boarding, hiking, sailing, food as medicine approach to eating and cooking, enjoys slowing down to perform weekly mindfulness progressive muscle relaxation work.
