Toshi Odaira Center for Sexual Medicine and Menopause and Center for Comprehensive Gynecology/Northwestern Medicine
I have been practicing physical therapy for the past 5 years, with experience treating both orthopedic, men and women's pelvic health cases. I am currently practicing out of Center for Sexual Medicine and Menopause and Center for Comprehensive Gynecology at Northwestern Medicine. I predominantly take care of patients who are suffering from chronic pelvic pain related to menopausal states, endometriosis, fibroids, central pain syndrome, medical or sexual trauma, as well as pain related to GI/bowel/genitourinary dysfunction such as constipation, IBS, painful bladder syndrome, vulvodynia, vaginismus and other numerous conditions. I have received extensive training through the Institute of Physical Art, utilizing it's paradigm of functional manual therapy on all my patients. In addition to my primary focus on manual therapy - ranging from internal vaginal and rectal pelvic floor work, external pelvic/hip/thoracic/abominal myofascial and joint work; I utilize motor control training and neuromuscular training to facilitate efficient movement in order to improve quality of life. I am also certified in funtional dry needling. I also like to take time to go through patient education - ranging from pain science talk, effective dilator use or other self release techniques, nutrition, "go to" home exercise programs, bowel/bladder habits and to return to pleasure with sexual activities. I am a believer that my patients have every potential to heal and that they are capable of creating their own healing through their unique journey. My job is to help my patients reclaim and discover their potential, and provide opportunities for their own healing to occur.
